Our November 15th meeting was hosted by David Straiton who presented "Do you need a disaster recovery plan?". David Straighton expertice on the subject made this an informative presentation.

Joe Celko's presentation on "Hierarchies and Trees in SQL" was not only informative but Joe's lively discussion of related topics brought the subject to life. If you missed TechWave this year, this was an opportunity see a presentation that was given there. Many thanks to Joe for an excellent presentation.

The presentation from Sybase on the new features of ASE 12.5 was great! (I was unfortunately tied up in Austin on a contract but heard through the grapevine that everyone really liked the presentations.) Thanks to David Straiton for handling the meeting in my absence.

(5/24/2001)

Our round table discussion on ASE IQ 12.4, Replication Server, and employment opportunities was definitely interesting. Thanks to all who contributed!

(3/17/2001)

Our meeting on Thursday had a great turnout and the topic "Replication Server Performance tuning" was well received. I did this presentation since 1) it was about time that the president do something at a meeting other than call it to order; and 2) Replication is a very hot topic. I will post the presentation slides in HTML format as soon as possible.

In spite of the impending snowstorm, we had an in-depth look at how George Toon, a former Sybase Professional Services consultant, implemented Replication Server with Direct Connect to implement bi-directional replication between MicroSoft SQL Server 7.0 and Sybase ASE 11.9.2. Thanks to George for putting this presentation together!

(11/17/2000)

Once again, we had a great presentation at our meeting. Sid Sipes from Sybase's Business Intelligence division spoke to the group about ASE IQ 12.4 and also the suite of prepackaged data warehouses for specific vertical markets that the BI division offers. Thanks Sid for an information packed presentation.

For more info, please see Sybase's website at www.sybase.com

Our meeting yesterday was excellent. Darrel Brislane and John Gibel from Cast Software did a fantastic presentation on Cast's application mining tool set. Many thanks to Darrel and John for coming down from Chicago to talk to the group.

David Rock from DBCorp spoke to the group about DBCorp's DBA services offerings and how DBCorp is working with independent contractors. Please see DBCorp's website for more info and also the Team DBA website which DBCorp sponsors.

Our meeting last night went very well (and the pizza showed up this time!). Max Sanchez's presentation on Java in ASE 12.0 was great! Much of the presentation material was drawn from the recently released class on Java in ASE 12.0. Thanks for the sneak peak Max!

Our next meeting will be held on September 14th. at 3:00PM. See you there!

(4/13/2000):

Our meeting tonight went very well (with the exception of the mysterious missing pizza man). We had two great presentations from Chris Diaz of Viador and Scott Reynolds of BMC Software. Thanks guys, great presentations that were very enlightening.

The group made several key decisions about the Dallas Sybase User's Group:

One other piece of news, I have finally straightened out the mailing list. I apologize for any inconveniences. If you need to reach me, my email is: pcadams@firesteedsoftware.com
